Double Coupons Wednesday

Ukrops grocery store now has double coupons up to 99 cents on Wednesdays.  I made a quick trip in this evening to pick up a few necessities (bread and eggs) and some double coupon deals. My freezer and pantry are well stocked so I haven’t needed to spend much on groceries lately.  With my UVC card, store coupons, and manufacturer’s coupons I ended up paying $28.65 for $80.40 worth of groceries. (My total should have actually been an additional $3.49 less, but they wouldn’t accept one of my FREE product coupons.  I would have returned the item, but Roger had already started to the car.)  I purchased 36 items so it worked out to be about 80 cents per item.  DSC_0011

bread, 2 dozen eggs, 4 boxes 30-count trashbags, Dole fruit in jello, Freshpet dog food (treat for Stella), Club/Cheddar snack crackers, 3 boxes PopTarts, 2 tuna pouches, Little Debbie Nutty Bars (husband’s impulse purchase), 2 boxes original Ritz crackers, 2 boxes Ritz Crackerfuls, 2 Snapple, 3 Velveeta Shells & Cheese, 2 Healthy Choice Steamer Dinners, Lipton teabags,  4 Pillsbury cinnamon rolls, and 4 Pillsbury crescent rolls  Yes, I’m aware that a lot of it is junk food.  I’m very happy with this new coupon promotion at Ukrops and will be shopping there more (on Wednesdays of course!)

A very profitable trip to Rite Aid

This week Rite Aid is offering a FREE $25 giftcard if you transfer a prescription to their pharmacy.  I took my prescription and my husband’s prescription in this evening.  The two together cost just $10.50 and I got $50 in Rite Aid giftcards.  That’s a profit of $39.50!  I went ahead and picked up a few of the FREE after rebate items for the week. See photo.  I used a $5 off $25 purchase coupon and a $1.00 off Comtrex coupon (found in a blinkie machine on the shelf).  I paid with one of the giftcards at a total of $22.73.  I’ll be getting back $28.73 which is a profit of another $6.00 for a total profit of $45.50 and I needed to fill the prescriptions anyhow!  This transaction always qualifies for my Rite Aid Fall Gift of Savings reward total -sweet!

Yard Sale Scores!

It’s been awhile since I set my alarm on a Saturday morning to get up and go yard sale-ing, but that’s exactly what I did today.  Roger and I were showered and on the road around 7 am.    We had a fun morning that spilled over into the afternoon – there was a pretty long list of sales today – and the weather was perfect.  Mom and Dad joined us after I called and woke them up (whoops!)  Here are a few of the items we snagged today…

Roger found a terrific sale on clothes for himself.  For $30 he purchased 55 shirts and 4 NEW pairs of pants and jeans.  (The washer has been getting a workout this evening.)  The clothes are in excellent condition and are all name brand items.  Tommy Hilfiger, Chaps, Izod, Geoffrey Beane, Bugle Boy, Nautica, Ralph Lauren, and more.  He’s practically got an entire new wardrobe, hangers included.  I’m jealous!  DSC_0023

The deal of the day, however, went to Mom.  She bought an antique school desk for just $10, thanks to me, I spied it!

I found an original Holly Hobbie doll for .50 which will be in a future post.  Mom is cleaning her up for me and sewing her arm back on that’s currently being held on by a safety pin.  Stay tuned….

Hooray for Skechers!

I’ve made my share of customer service complaints on my blog.  Today I want to praise the customer service at Skechers.  My husband purchased some Skechers work shoes a few months ago from JC Penneys.  After about two months, the sole of one of the shoes separated from the rest of the shoe and it also cracked.  I emailed Skechers about the problem and was advised that I would have to mail the shoes along with an explanation of the problem to them, and they would examine the shoes to determine if the shoes were defective.  I was skeptical about paying the shipping to mail the shoes across the country with no guarantee, but am glad that I did.  When we returned home from the lake today there was a package on the front porch containing a new pair of the exact shoes.  Thank you Skechers for your great service and let me just say you make THE BEST flip-flops on earth!  I’ve worn the same pair for two summers now.  They still look like I just bought them and they are so very comfortable.  We will definitely be purchasing more Skechers in the future. Sharing Sunday – Harvest Raisin Bars

I’m ready for autumn, but Mother Nature thinks it’s still summer here in Southside Virginia.   It was well into the 80’s  so we cooked on the grill tonight for supper.  That didn’t stop me from firing up the oven and baking a harvest dessert!  While this recipe is for “bars” it’s more like a snack cake.   It’s extrememly easy to make and most likely you will have all the ingredients on hand. I enjoyed it and hope you will too!  Doesn’t it look tasty?

DSC_0009

Harvest Raisin Bars

1/2 cup margarine             1 cup raisins                           1 cup water

1 cup sugar                            1 egg                                           1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

2 cups flour                           1 teaspoon soda                    1/2 teaspoon salt

Icing

1 & 1/3 cups powdered sugar               1/2 teaspoon vanilla

2 tablespoons margarine                        2 tablespoons milk

Heat the 1/2 cup margarine, raisins,  and water to boiling; remove from heat.  Combine the sugar, egg, and cinnamon; add to raisin mixture.  Add the flour, soda, and salt, mixing well.  Pour into a 9 x 13 inch pan and bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes.  Icing: Beat together the powdered sugar, vanilla, 2 tablespoons softened margarine, and milk until smooth.  Spread on hot bars 10 minutes after removing from oven.
